Privacy Policy

QuillWater keeps your journal on your device. There are no accounts, there is no Steepwoods server, and we never receive your entries, your photos, or your locations.

1. Information we collect

None. QuillWater has no sign-up, no login, and no user accounts. It contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no tracking of any kind. Steepwoods LLC does not receive, store, or have access to any data you enter into the app, and we do not sell or share data with anyone, because we do not have it.

2. What the app stores on your device

Everything you record lives in a database and a photo folder inside the app's private storage on your phone:

• Journal entries, including notes, dates and locations you record
• Catch records, including species, length, weight and photos
• Gear items and equipment setups
• Trips that group entries together
• Conditions such as weather, water temperature, clarity, tide stage and moon phase
• Your app settings, including theme, units and date format

Deleting the app removes all of it from your device.

3. Location

The app asks for location permission only while you are using it, and only to record where an entry happened and to look up the conditions for that place. You can decline, enter a location by hand, or leave location off an entry entirely. Your coordinates are stored on your device and are sent off it only as described in section 4.

4. Third-party services the app contacts

To fill in conditions automatically, the app makes requests to two outside services. Each request contains an approximate latitude and longitude and a date. No name, no email, no device identifier and no account information is sent, because the app has none to send.

These services are run by other organizations under their own privacy practices, which we do not control. If you never record a location, the app does not contact them.

5. Photos

Photos you attach are taken with your camera or chosen from your photo library and copied into the app's private storage. They are not uploaded anywhere. The app requests photo access only when you attach a photo.

The copy preserves the photo's original embedded information, which for most cameras and phones includes the date, the camera settings and, if location services were on, the place the photo was taken. That information stays inside the file on your device. The app does not currently read it, and nothing about it is sent anywhere.

6. Exports and backups

PDF exports and backup archives are created on your device. Where they go after that is entirely your choice — email, AirDrop, a cloud drive, or a file on your phone. Once you share a file, this policy no longer governs it; the privacy practices of whatever service you send it to apply instead.

7. Children

QuillWater is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The app collects no personal information from anyone.

8. Your choices

You can delete any entry, catch, photo or gear item inside the app at any time, and deleting the app removes everything it stored. There is no data deletion request to submit and no account to close, because we hold nothing about you.

9. This website

steepwoods.net is a static site. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies. If you send us a message through the support form, we receive what you type in it — your name, your email address and your message — and use it only to reply to you. Web fonts on this site are served by Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of serving the font files.

10. Changes to this policy

If QuillWater ever gains a feature that changes how data is handled — optional cloud sync, for example — this policy will be rewritten before that feature ships, and the effective date above will change. Material changes will be noted on this page.
